Safe and Connected

Free support for seniors during the COVID-19 outbreak

How does it work?

Lively is offering free and flexible support for seniors during this challenging time.

If you need help staying safe and connected at home, we will match you with a young person, who'll work with you to provide social and practical support for up to 4 FREE hours per week during the COVID-19 pandemic. They're kind of like a grandkid with a bit more time and patience!

Support available

We can offer support at no charge thanks to the generosity of our funders. The offer of free support extends to the 30th of September, with the following options available:

Social connection

  • Friendly phone calls with our Helpers to relieve loneliness and isolation.

  • Technology assistance to help you stay in touch with friends and family (e.g. video calls)

Health and Safety

  • Smart plugs from Umps Health* to monitor your health and safety in the home, and to alert family or caregivers of concerns, including help setting them up.
  • Ensuring you can talk to a GP and other essential health services over the phone or video (telehealth) when you need it.

*You will receive FREE home monitoring kits and a subscription to their service until 30 September 2020.

Bare Necessities

  • Support with picking up groceries and medications or paying bills online.
  • Other flexible support as determined by you and your Helper.

What about social distancing?

If you feel uneasy about face-to face contact, rest assured that most of our services can be delivered via video or phone. We can even provide contactless delivery of groceries and medications (by dropping them at your door steps and giving you a call so you can pick them up).

Lively also uses CareApp to facilitate communication between you, your Helper and family members or broader support network. This way, your care network can receive reassuring updates and remain connected with you throughout this crisis.

Areas we’re currently servicing

We have Lively Helpers available across most of inner metropolitan Melbourne, and can connect you with a local Helper if you live in the following local areas:

  • Banyule
  • Boroondara
  • Darebin
  • Glen Eira
  • Kingston
  • Manningham
  • Monash
  • Moreland
  • Mornington
  • Nillumbik
  • Phillip Island
  • Whitehorse
  • Whittlesea
  • Yarra

We’re also able to provide assistance further afield if you are happy with fully remote assistance.

Don’t see your area on the list?

Feel free to reach out and express your interest, and we’ll explore whether we can help anyway. If we can’t help ourselves, we’ll do our best to connect you to folks who can.

Keeping you safe

We work to match you with a young person local to your area, facilitating new connections with your community as well as valuable employment for the young people involved.

All Lively Helpers are verified in person, thoroughly screened with reference and police checks, and have completed COVID-specific training from the Department of Health to ensure that the support on offer is delivered safely.

Lively has also outlined strict health and safety protocols for all home visits and provided Helpers with a safety kit.
